Reasons I

Some days the only thing that keeps me here

Are the flowers on the side of the highway.

Some days it’s the way guitar strings feel under my fingers.

Some days it’s the words someone said to me years ago,

Or memories captured in my phone.

Just as I was slipping,

Losing reasons,

Your smile caught in my bones,

And gave me a thousand more.

It hurts worse,

In some ways,

But the joy of watching you

Be happy,

Is a hundred reasons

I can’t ignore.
