The Raven

Once after a deep-sleep dreaming, when the sun began to rise

A sound awakened me and I became weary

What could this sound be, I really want to go back to sleep

I awakened to a sudden scratching

As if something was viciously pounding, pounding at my bedroom door.

Just this and nothing more

I believe it was early, early one winter morning

There was something at the door, a loud roar

It sounded as if someone was breaking in

The scratching traveling up and down and across the door

I heard clashing, snapping, and shattering of odd decor

So much stuff falling to the floor

It must be the the cat, standing outside in the hall

The voice, a meow, is so high pitched

How is her throat not sore?

This stupid cat is what has kept me up?

Oh, dumb cat...please shut up and have your noise cease

All I want to do is fall asleep in peace

It’s all I want and nothing more
