Race ...

Philippians 2:16

16 Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.

Race

Little have I known and most of that forgotten.

Whatever fills me now I don’t seem to know

Am I now unwinding the springs that were too tight,

which made my life inflexible as I jumped to and fro?

Never reached the distance and seldom was on time.

I ran the race against others rather than myself.

This was the great hindrance always self in mind

and in comparison with others never doing well.

Rather than trying to win I should have supported others.

In their race to excellence I should have supplied my water.

When they were slowing down and no one seemed to bother

I should have offered strength in heart for them to go on farther.
