I want us to begin a new chapter.
Our fingers interlock as they glide across each undulating letter on the typewriter,
feeling around for new words to spell.
Our fingers dig deeply into the nooks and crannies of the first row of letters,
a row we know all too well.
We have spelled “quit”, and “we were”,
I hope this time our fingers will discover a new letter;
perhaps somewhere between ” U ” and ” I “
Digging deeper,
Searching harder,
Forcing this discovery,
Will only end in mangled fingers, tired eyes, and bruised hearts,
So once again we have to “quit”,
Realizing we’ll never go back to the way “we were.”
