A Question

What can be said of a young man who asks,

“Who am I”?

What if he were to look back,

On the year that just passed?

Were his thoughts definitive of his actions

or were his actions definitive of his thoughts?

Was it more of an accomplishment to graduate from high school,

or to complete one semester of college?

Was arguing over presidential candidates worth his time,

or were people only interested in their own opinions?

Was his advice,

enough to save a good friend from an alcoholic vice?

Did his friends change just to get high,

Or did getting high change his friends?

Was it more painful to lose a best friend,

Or to lose the love for a friend?

Was rock-bottom truly that bad,

Or was the climb back up worse?

Did a new mindset pave a path for success in his first semester of college,

Or was a new mindset the result of a successful change?

Were his experiences in the past year mere memories,

Or are they indicative of who he is?

Were his thoughts just an expression of himself,

or was he a reflection of society?

Is the young man just curious,

Or does he already know?
