Preacher Man

Location

Preacher man

You tell us God is love

We stand or sit hungry at the pew

We hear you raise your voice

To tell us we have a choice

But all we crave is food in our belly

You ask us to pray and fast

Oh that’s not difficult, can’t remember when we ate last

And yet you ask us for offering and tithes

As if you don’t know the situation is tight

And all we do every day is waiting

That tomorrow might be better

I wonder what I tell my son

Who heard you say God understands

The reason why he couldn’t eat

His supper, lunch and even breakfast,

But all the same we hear the church bell

And hurriedly we come running

Knowing full well it’s another day without a rest.

And to make it worse you said God allows the devil to test

The extent of our faith in him

I wonder if at all I would pass this temptation.

Am a man, and I was told

That I was created

This I do not doubt

But wonder I do

If he loves me so

Why do I hunger for basic?

Many would say I blaspheme

That he would kill me if am profane

But I see those who don’t trust

Enjoy the benefits while we rust

We can only pray all ends well.
