Pollution Sunset

The world is bathed in orange and gold

As the sun peers through at us

The rays try to pierce us with light

But we are guarded by

Layer

Upon layer

Of our own grey clouds

The great rainclouds without rain

The mighty thunderheads without thunder

They lay over the world

Protecting us from the savage dangers of nature

Enclosing us under its cozy blanket

The sun struggles to see us through the haze

His eyes burn as he turns his gaze into the smog

Let me through, children! he calls

And we reply,

We no longer need you, for we have already collected your heat.
