Staring at her eyes,
You can see the pain.
Even as she laughs
She’s held onto by a chain.

All her life she’s known what hurt is.
All her life she’s known no goodness.
How can I tell her everything will be okay,
When everything around her has no innocence?

She’s never been held softly.
She’s known only the roughness of man.
The evil parts of human nature,
The course parts of his hands.

The interior of her heart is bruised.
Her spirit has been crushed.
Her eyes ever filled with tears,
Her soul still cannot trust.

She has nowhere to run.
She feels as though she can’t ever leave.
She can’t let herself move on.
She’s trapped by her own needs.

Her worth is more than that of gold,
But she does not believe.
I wish I could make her understand,
That my love she can receive.
