Pipe Dream

I once had a dream about shopping for a mom.

You could choose whichever you wanted

And if you weren’t content with your purchase,

An exchange or return could be arranged

As long as you had kept the box and receipt.

My mom stopped working shortly after I got her.

So I returned to the store,

Unhappy with the situation I now found myself in.

I returned a few months later,

Just before the 90-day return policy was up

And chose a little more carefully this time.

--

Perhaps in order to minimize production or maximize profit,

Mom and dad value packs were becoming more and more rare

And I should have put one on hold

Rather than thinking one would be waiting for me.
