Phoenix

Bruised, beaten, and battered

The blood of those slaughtered have flowed through history.

Our ancestors.

*Risen from the ashes of oppression and injustice.

The masters had told us we wouldn’t be anything but pieces of property.

From movie directors to artists, look at us now

The masters had told us we were nothing.

From inventors to poets, look at us now

The masters gave us every reason to fear them.

From abolitionists to warriors, look at us now

The masters had told us that we were ignorant, lazy, and ugly in every way

From doctors, innovators, chefs, leaders, award winners, champions, athletes, scientists and even PRESIDENT! Look at us now!

It is our time to show them our true colors

True greatness.

True history.

And it is still being made today.
