Perception

In reflections he saw an insufficiency.
He'll never discover the new world,
Never be the first to set foot on the moon--
So he parades his kingdom of traitors and lovers
as if he was a star.

And in their minds he was arrogant,
And they abhorred every word he spoke.
He was the root of all their problems,
The center of every quarrel,
Yet he never was of any importance
To any of them, but one.

And in her mind he was a recurring dream,
Intriguing and thrilling, just short of a nightmare.

She was an ever present phantom
In his life of solitude and misshapen compassion.
Still she cursed him for his negligence--with himself and her heart,
and though she swore each time she meant each word she said,
She always changed her mind
And resolved to try and love him again.
