people i’ve loved and hurt

the boy with ocean eyes and gel-swept hair

a deceitful soul, but such a pretty face

he speaks in metaphors and phrases

and lies only when he loves you

he’ll tell you that you’re the only one

and you know what? you’ll believe it

but when it’s over, he’s already with the next

and so you’re standing

watching him heal the heart you hurt

and holding together yours

the boy with the tousled hair

the cheshire grin, the lanky posture

he’s warm and welcoming and feels like home

but beneath his eyes, is something sacred

something he worships, loves

something i will never understand

it slithers like a snake and leaves you wishing for something more

you might feel loved, but never adored

the girl with the soft laugh

the gentle gaze, the leaned on shoulders

a hand pressed against a back, comforting

she feels like ice cream and beach and hot sun

i broke her heart because she loved me

and i was a monster, a bleeding poison

and she didn’t care, she loved me anyhow

but i left her when she needed me most

and she'd only hold her hand on the burning stove so long

the boy with the words

a sensitive heart, i swear i tried to be careful

but when you play with glass

it’s bound to end up broken

he shouted his love from the rooftops

but i liked a quiet, honest love

we didn’t fit no matter how hard he tried

it was sad

but it was real, we were real

the boy with the auburn hair and the jokes

he might love you, but never the most

you'll feel it, but it's not enough

he loves you, but not enough to keep you
