Pelican't

The pelican can't hide his beak
To win "The Best Bird of the Week"
With dingy plumage and odd physique
The gangly pelican't.

To turtledoves there's no compare
Of delicacy. He has no flare
To draw ones gaze from here to there
Like cockatoos or parrots.

But for all the things exterior
That make the bird inferior
He come's out all the cheerior
This tenacious pelican.

And so the pelican in unperturbed
When compared to the sweet songbird
He is gregarious and assured
The kindly pelican.

His food he will share readily
His young he'll care for steadily,
And with his practical ability
There's much the pelican.
