Peace ≠ Stability

“Freedom from disturbance; tranquility.”

Although, to most, being physically stable

Can bring you peace with yourself,

Peace is not physical stability.

The definition of internal peace

And external stability

May seem extremely similar,

But they are two completely different things.

As I type it out for myself,

It seems obvious that they are different.

Yet, it’s difficult to grasp the concept

That what may seem like perfection to the naked eye

Tends to be far from such.

Doing tasks that bring physical stability

Completing schoolwork,

Getting your grades up,

Passing that test,

Making that team

Won’t give you comfort

Until you get comfortable with yourself first.

“Little mind tricks we play with ourselves

To bring us back to a place of ease

When we’re stressed or scared; self manipulation.”

Sometimes, we have to play pretend

Even with the ones we’re closest to.

Eventually, we create a fake reality for ourselves,

Wear a fake smile,

Present a poker face so often

That we begin to forget

It’s all just pretend.

Until we remember.

Once you remember

That everything isn’t as glittering and golden

As you make it seem,

It all comes crashing back down

External stability.
