Painted Dreams

A brush of color through silvered night air,
Paints a dragon’s false shape, starlit shining
Majesty with which no one can compare.
Aurous beast, streak through the wind like lightning
With lithe twin wings, outstretched in rapid flight.
The flickering of sparks within your glide;
Flashing tongues of flame set pitch sky alight
From behind ochre fangs and jaws stretched wide.
Within moon’s glint, burnished scales glimmer gold.
Lustrous drake, cast your glare into the gloom,
Fine aureate eyes, burning bright and bold.
Strike swiftly, knight’s bane, your morning comes soon,
For what is scale’s shimmer, wing’s flight, fire’s gleam,
But painter’s hand, giving life to a dream?
