Our Own Worst Enemy

Wed, 11/26/2014 - 12:32 -- Tyra H.

No one has any right to push you down

yet, the one thing that insures we live,

Slams us against a brick wall of dissapointment

with rays of hope shining around attempting to grip you tight,

And raise you from sorrow, but can't quite reach you.

Life.

The darkest trickster of them all,

It tears at you from the inside and makes you feel worthless,

Even when you have an army behind you telling you,

"You're worth it"

So when life hands you lemons,

make apple juice.

Or rather when life shoves a beautifully wrapped girft into your hands,

And you wish for a break but inside is nothing but hate and misery,

Open it with a smile and thank them for the challenge.

Because life, is not a person that can hold you back

as you try to escape though you still end up with deep cuts and sore bruises.

Yeah, it hurts when you bump the bruise or blister.

It hurts a lot,

But that is how you know you are doing it right.

We've all heard it, again and again, and I'm going to tell you,

One. More. TIme.

You only live once.

When life grabs at your arms hard enough

That you swear upon all heavens and high hell

That its finger prints will be ingrained in your skin

forever, pulling the delicate strands of hair from your sclap,

scratching with vicious intent,

Stop.

Just stop fighting.e

Don't let life have the satisfaction of knowing that it has inconvienced you,

enjoy the ride with the wicked bumps and sharp turns along the way.

Prove that we are strong enough to hold our own in the bloodiest battle,

the one that leaves casualties left and right.

Shed the tears that were meant to be shed but don't cry over spilt milk.

I know you can be bruised, battered, bleeding and broken

and just want to give up.

I know, because I have been there.

But we will stand tall with our noses in the air

because the floor is rough beneath us,

nothing but hard wood and stained carpet.

Yes, life will kick our butts

repeatedly

and it will hurt like no other.

Just find that inner defiance nestled deep in you mind hidden behind

the please's and thank you's, yes ma'am's and no sir's,

relish in its powers.

Then jump head first back into that cage match,

knock life down a peg, or 5,

It can take the beating.

Life deserves at least one hardy kick to the groin.

When life throws lemons as hard as rock your way,

squeeze the stinging juice of revenge in it's eyes and jaunt away,

Your head thrown back in laughter.

You did it.

You fought back and won.

No more hiding behind that curtain that hid you in the shadows

of your friends, family and enimies.

With life telling you what is and isn't wrong.

Jump out of those dark holdings and present yourself

with pride.

We are the champions, my friends.

We kept on fight, and we won.
