An Original Sonnet: I Am Second

We live in a world consumed within vanity

Constantly being told to put ourselves first

Turning our heads to preserve our own sanity

Closing all our hearts to one anothers hurt

Closing eyes to people sick and dying

Bling from the world, living in a fish bowl

We crack our I-Phones and begin crying

Wealth and success being our only goals

Erase these ideas, they are but delusions

Things will not change if we don't take action

We can't thrive in comforted seclusion

Materialistic views have become abstractions

Open up your heart and begin giving

Remove the blinders and just start living
