Only Me

Once I was a wee young sap

so innocent and gullible.

I followed others blindly,

orbit around them like they were the sun.

They gave me life and kept me warm

but they also left me cold.

They would travel far and wide

leaving me to search for them.

Almost like a game of hide and seek

only I was never being searched for.

They only wanted me to find them

and never to hide with them.

I was never a necessity always just a drag,

so I left them behind and made my own shine

and became a warmth of my own.

Now it is me by myself

but I’m better alone

I learned that I can fly solo.

I shall be just with me

until I know what it means

to only need one person

for eternity.
