One Thing I Know
If there is one thing I know,
If there is one thing I know,
It’s that everything is changing.
If you look outside can you really
Tell me that it looks like it did just
Last week? Last month? Last year?
Over the years, new landscapes formed:
There are now forests and hills,
Where once there was only a prairie.
There is now a lake where
Once only a crater sat.
It’s true that I have changed too.
If you could see inside me,
You could see battlegrounds
Where once all you could see
Were unprotected civilian homes.
And my brain, oh my brain.
I wish you could see just how
Twisted and turned and twisted
It was before. Before time passed.
It’s so different now.
And my arms, which were once empty,
Now hold you so tightly.
And my heart, which was once shattered
Is still cracked but you have been trying
To put It back together.
There is one thing I know
It’s that you changed everything.
You looked deeper than my outside
Past the landscapes, the hills and valleys.
And into my soul and into my heart. that everything is changing.
If you look outside can you really
Tell me that it looks like it did just
Last week? Last month? Last year?
Over the years, new landscapes formed:
There are now forests and hills,
Where once there was only a prairie.
