Once A Hero

I remember when we went on that youth trip to El Paso.

That was the first time we probably actually talked.

I remember trying to carry you up two flights of stairs because you couldn't stand.

I remember my birthday party.

We all ran around in the dark playing fugitive.

I remember giving you two Star Wars books for Christmas.

I got a book on how to speak droid back.

I remember you asking me which DC heroine I would be.

I didn't know then but I think I want to be Overwatch or Supergirl.

I remember our late night chats and our daily chats throughout the day.

I remember how speechless I was when I read your email about me being your personal hero.

I remember you admitting that you liked my paintings.

I hope that hasn't changed.

I remember being encouraged by you when I felt alone.

But one thing I never got the chance to admit.

You were my personal hero.
