Ode to Wonderland

Tue, 08/15/2017 - 16:10 -- fzmsyed

Turning back to look for the source of an unexpected sound,

I tripped on my feet  and awkwardly fell down,

I fell through a seemingly everlasting rabbit hole,

My whole body was spinning out of control,

I could not see because it was so dark,

I looked for a tiny light or even a small spark,

As I continued the fall, I closed my eyes,

Like a dead man, I thought that I would never again rise.

Finally, I reached the bottom of the abyss,

After a while, I thought my mind had gone amiss,

I saw talking animals and walking decks of cards,

I met the Cheshire cat and the mad hatter in someone’s yard,

They looked to me to join the fight against the evil queen who ruled their land,

But the fear of war was too much for me to withstand,

I ran far to avoid the chaotic violence of war,

Only to encounter Absolem, whose advice made me think as I never did before,

After pondering, I returned to the battlefield to join in the fray,

I had never felt so brave until that day.

I was so sorry Wonderland, to see such a serene place facing the desolations of war,

But Thank You for making me see that life is not such a difficult chore,

When I fell and hit the ground,

Wonderland picked me up and turned me around,

Life is tough and not so fair,

But thanks to wonderland I know there are but few things that I can’t bear,

Through battle and fear, Wonderland put many challenges in my way,

And in the end taught me that if my will is strong enough, I will be able to win the day,

Was my adventure in Wonderland real or pretend?

All I know is that I emerged as a stronger man than when I did descend.
