Ode To Childhood

I sit on top of a fifty floor building
Pretending to be Wonder-Woman
Wanting to save everyone from the troubles of the day.
But then and again I sometimes wonder what saved me
Before I began to keep evil at bay.
That's when I'm taken back to many, many years ago.
To that night in the garden,
Under the shining stars,
To that time when my city was covered in snow.
Back to a simpler time where life was as simple as leggos and egg-ohs.
Back to a simpler time when my head was filled with the nectar of rainbows.

I transport back to my childhood
On days when I can't save myself.
From the daunting reality that is life
One of the biggest plagues on human health.
I think of the princesses in disney movies that never cried for help.
Like Mulan saving her country
Or even Alice in Wonderland,
The girl who lost herself,
But came back to her senses in the end.
I think we all need to transport back to our childhood
When we need a happier place to be.
I think we all need to transport back to our childhood
To give us a clearer perspective from which to see.

Somedays I even go back to the times when I danced around
For other no reason, than just to to hear my feet tapping the ground.
To those dances that made me feel solid,
Like the roots of a tree in the Earth.
Not like a ghost, who fades away
Down, down, down, into the dirt.
Cause even when I'm pretending to be Wonder-Woman,
I have days when I feel weak.
Days when I want to just lay down
And fall into an eternal sleep.
So this is why I tell you go back to the days of leggos and egg-ohs.
Because even I, one of the world's greatest superhero's,
Have to go back to the days when I played with play-doh.

Memories of our childhood save us from ourself,
Especially from who we don't want to be,
When we feel there is no where else.
Always remember, that your childhood will set you free.
For all of your troubles, just take my advice.
Trust me, you will see.

I wrote this poem for my AP English and Literature class.
We were assigned to write an ode about anything we wanted and since I am going through a time of change, I figured I would go back to my childhood.
