Not So Starry Night

Not So Starry Night

Starry, starry night,

Which star will I see tonight?

The purple one above the moon, the blue one which changes hues,

4 Or just a violent haze?

I used to look and find an array,

But now what I see leaves me in dismay.

Nothing but a violent light,

8 blinding me from a beautiful sight.

Cars, streets, and houses too,

all leave a not-so-charming hue.

What used to be a freckled sky,

12 has blurred into something I can’t identify.

When I look to the night, that’s not what I see,

just a continuation of the day that won’t let me be.

When I look to the night,

16 it seems to flee.

What happened to the Milky Way stripe?

Or all the constellations I held so tight?

Has all the night turned to white,

20 Because of that so terrible light?

I will miss the way the stars glow,

When that light proceeds to grow.

Oh, what I see is such a fright,

24 on this not so starry night.
