Not A Kid!

The summer of 2012 I was sitting on the porch

On my right was my big sister of course

We sat there talking as if life was okay

Then she told me some news that blew me away

She said some nights she didn't feel safe

The man in our lives what a big disgrace

He lectured and preached all the time

He told us the dos and don'ts that we should abide by

Surely of course we listened to his advice

Never thought it would come as a sacrifice

He was dealing with demons on his own

Ones that he pushed on

She said that some nights he would creep

Straight into her room while she was asleep

He pulled the covers, told her to keep quiet

But that summer day she broke her silence

Enclosed that secret on to me

Which caused me to weep and weep

Our father she said, the one who's supposed to protect

He took something from her she wished she kept

Now I know what kind of man he is

The one who takes advantage of his kids

A sick man who is doing time

One who I have pushed out of my life
