Not How I Should Learn

Newtown
Columbine
Parkland
Orlando
Las Vegas
San Bernardino
And too many more
This isn't how I should learn my geography

58 killed, 851 injured, that's 909 in total
This isn't how I should learn math

I want to go back to the days where active shooter trainings weren't common core
Where I didn't have to race my friends to lock the door

Every time I see the news, my heart sinks to the floor
Will I be next?
There's no yes or no answer this isn't a test
I can't just choose c and hope for the best

How much blood needs to run through the halls, how many bullets puncturing volleyballs
For you to realise our lives matter

I'm not a statistic, I never will be
Even if a bullet splits my artery
Let it be known that I had a face, I was a human, I had a place
We have hopes and dreams just like you
But how do we live them if we're afraid to

This poem is about:
My country
Our world

Brooke Warren

This brought me to tears. My favorite lines were,

"There's no yes or no answer this isn't a testI can't just choose c and hope for the best" "I'm not a statistic, I never will beEven if a bullet splits my arteryLet it be known that I had a face, I was a human, I had a place"

"We have hopes and dreams just like you

But how do we live them if we're afraid to"
