No more shadows

Dear C,

Your shadow lagged behind you, slumped.

Inadequacy had become your nickname.

You were afraid to walk with your head held high,

Because you knew that the ground wouldn’t judge you.

You feared failure, rejection, isolation.

But what is a life if lived constantly in fear?

What is a world if wallowed in self pity?

What is an existence if only endured for itself?

You could have easily told yourself,

I can’t. I won’t.

But you didn’t.

After all, what is a life if lived without love?

What is a world if lived without worth?

What is an existence if lived without inspiration?

You got out of bed and faced the day,

Even if you had to drag your feet along the way.

You stared down the face in the mirror,

Despite all your flaws and imperfections.

Yes, I can.

And now, in the light of day,

Nothing nips at your heels but the footsteps of your followers.

Inadequacy has become nameless,

Because you only acknowledge the exceptional.

You finally meet the eyes of those around you,

Because the warm shining sky welcomes you.

Time is of the essence,

But yesterday was the past.

You still fear failure, rejection, isolation.

But what makes you different today

Is that you learned from the mistakes of yesterday.

You told yourself,

Yes, I will.

What inspires me, you ask?

You, you inspire me.

Sincerely, C from Today.
