In the Night

I see pink

Bleeding over the horizon

Melting into sorbet orange

Erasing the blackness and illuminating the sky

Then appears the great ball of fire

and I know that it's all over

That every nighttime ends with dawn

Our passion shrinks beneath the sky

Cowering from the blistering fire

Memories linger in each shadow

Yet our hearts no longer beat together

Our hands fall empty to our sides

Life causes us to squint our eyes

and cower from our potential

They say an endless night would be no good

But I would love to spend forever in your bed

Close your eyes and go back to sleep

In the night I will visit your dreams

But with the dew I evaporate

I'll squeeze your hand and step aside

But I cannot stand to walk away

Look in my eyes, look to the moon

For in the night we will survive
