Night

Night

Envelopes the city

Pinpricks of light shine

Through the black shroud

Buildings grow in place of

Trees in the cityscape

Brown brick and grey stone

Stand imposing and impassive

Wrought iron street lamps

Glow dully in the darkness

Throwing their yellow light

Into banks of snow

Piled on the curbs

And yet, the beams fail

To seep into those ever-

-stretching alleyways

Forever shadowed in

Night
