That Night

I will always remember that night,

music pumping through the speakers as the disco lights flickered,

the faintest mixture of cheap vodka and cigarettes on my tongue.

I will always remember that night,

the slight wobble of my heels against the cobbled floor,

friendly tugging the bottle from your hands as you clutched onto it like a spoilt child

I will always remember that night,

laying on the damp grass gazing at the stars,

you whispering in my ear; convinving me I was a lightweight and I needed to be careful of the boys

I will always remember that night,

feeling the hairs on my arms raise in unison as the breeze hit me throught the door,

a toothy smile as I approached you; slouched on the wall swinging your legs.

I will always remember that night,

hugging you goodnight under the darkness of the moon,

feeling your starvation of human touch as you hung onto me.

I will always remember that night,

the way your hands melted into my skin,

squeezing and pinching my flesh as I desperately wriggled out of your presence,

the aggression you spat at me,

bruises surfacing in the stars as my dress lifted higher and higher,

screaming "stop" into the deafening silence.

But I will always remember one thing in particular,

the stares of disgust and vulgarity that burned into my existence,

the slurs I was met with at school,

and most importantly, those words,

"be careful of the boys".

Because it was infact you,

who I should've been careful of.
