I stand before the world in two places,
either behind the curtain, or on stage
and though on the surface I may appear plain
I am a closed book, with rips and tears and stains
Everybody loves the outgoing, pleasant man
So I play the merry role, smiling as best as I can
Constantly keeping my stress contained in a can
I’m boiling on the inside, I need a fan
If I let my emotions get out of the cage
Love comes out, but so does lament and rage
What if they don’t like me?
No, I’ve got to be brave.
I don’t know what they’ll see,
but it’s time to turn the page.
