Never Let Go

As you march down a street

everyone can see your little bodies shaking

from the weight of the gun

or how your heart is breaking

you don't want to be there

but you don't want to defy them

for if you were to run

or rise to fight them

you might die then

So you say to yourself

I'll take my chances with them

hopefully, one day, I can escape them

build a life with grace and prosperity

but for now I'll just try to survive

and breath

I'll take my chances with them because I know

that if I try to leave

they wouldn't let me go

they would torture me or someone I love

so I'll do the only thing I know

and go with the flow

eventually when I grow

I'll run, somewhere they wouldn't know

I'll take my chances at freedom

a freedom I've never known

so that one day when I get old

I can let my children know

to Never. Let. Go.
