The Negro Mother

Location

The negro mother black as night, never gave up the fight.
So brave and strong, she carried on and on.
Her children taken.
Her husband sold,
She held on to the dream refusing to let go.

She dreamed of freedom
She dreamed of happiness
She dreamed of a life where her family was together again and of a time when there was no more pain in her children's eyes.
A time when a child's laugh was heard more than his wail.
A time when the evening was not spent tending wounds from the day's beating.

The Negro Mother bright as dawn,
Looks down from heaven watching her dream live on.
So brave are her children, so strong are we.
You, me, us. We are free
The Negro Mother's dream
He, she, they. We all are happy
The Negro Mother's dream
