Beauty
is it above honesty?
Put on a layer of cosmetics
Whiten your teeth with the newest on the market
Use the finest products in your hair
Still not perfect; pose
The photographer prances about
Look perky, look sexy, or one of those
He can fix any flaws with photoshop
You're on top of the world, latest Vogue edition
You own New York City
No one pays mind to the young woman working late nights
Her face is shown to all who look
Dark circles under her eyes, freckles across her cheeks
A vibrant smile reveals teeth slightly yellowed and a'crook
Her hair struggles from the ponytail to be free and unruly
There is no photographer, no commands of look
She cannot afford photoshop; She is real
The last photo of her is from last year's Christmas party
Another one in the rat race, yet happy to be no one but herself
She is as she was born to be; Nature's True Beauty

As a woman in this society I have found it difficult time and time again to face myself in the mirror and still convince myself that I am beautiful. It something that happens to all our woman. But out of this poem, after you give the haunting image of how the media displays our beauty, I adore your description of the real beauty in woman. It was perfect and amazing and I'm almost willing to cry after reading it. Thank you so much for sharing this, it is definitely a poem that many woman should read, that many people should read.
