The Myths Among Us

Fri, 10/11/2019 - 08:44 -- arij26

Power courses through their veins.

Their minds hold a seemingly never ending flow of knowledge.

Their future is fluid,

Free to change and morph into any form they desire.

They are the modern day myth.

Myths because very few believed.

But when people see them today,

Their hardships are their creation story,

Propelling them into who they are now,

They can’t refuse to acknowledge.

The evidence is too great.

These modern day myths have the power to create.

But who are they?

They are the bartenders from the Bronx taking on political machines.

The brown boys and girls who got out of the hood and accomplished incredible things.

The firsts in their family to earn a degree, sometimes perhaps from an elusive exclusive university.

All of the people, who rose above the hate.

Who became somehing beyond just great.

All of the people little minds see now,

Who are living breathing proof that somehow,

Destinies can be rewritten,

Futures can change,

Stories seemingly written at birth can be rearranged.

So maybe to some,

They look like anyone else.

Just another human trying to figure it out.

But to those of us who know

The intensity it took

We have the ability to take a second look,

And say these are modern day myths.

Even when no one else believed,

These myths decided to go out and create something.
