My Tree

I looked up at the tree

Down on earth it seemed to reach the stars

Slowly I reached for the rough prickly branch

The tree whispered “climb my branches”

I extended my body for the next branch

My feet slipped the spiky pine needles tickled my face

As I reached the top I held my breath

My heart skipped

The sun had set and the horizon faded into an ocean

Greens and blues far in the distance

I see the geese flying away to a paradise to escape the winter snows

The moon glistened shining bright white

Up here the ground was so far away

Houses were small building blocks

And people were the size of large beetles

The wind blew leaves off of the neighboring trees

The leaves fluttered gracefully back down to earth

I felt that if I let go of the branch I would fall just as gracefully as the leaves could
