My Tree

Mon, 08/20/2018 - 10:48 -- lpric01

There grew a tree by my house of blue.
It was an impenetrable fortress,
That protected me from the harsh sun.
And yet,
Gave way to a gentle breeze.

It suspended me from the ground,
Keeping my head of dreams in the clouds.
It was where
Afternoons of fair weather were spent.
Along with covers and pages bound together.
Which harbored words of adventure.

To climb the the tree
Then to conquer giants,
To fall in love,
Or to befriend beasts of the night.

Then one day after a long night shower
I climbed.
But,
It's the softened wood splintered and broke.

Perhaps I had grown too large the scale the beast.
Or maybe it wasn't the fortress I believed it to be.

Either way,
An old friend died that day.

Along with skin from my elbows,

And a piece of my heart.
