My Treasure

Ornament up on the tree

You have always meant the world to me.

You’re bad times and old love... but beautiful

You remind me of my innocence.

Back when I was free

I’m working now, bound down by chains

Chains of responsibility and of growing up too soon

Why did he go off with that loon.

But we didn’t have much money

Not much to spend

No Christmas presents were coming

And we were just want, want wanting.

My Dad and I were in the town

Just flopping down

Down the lane and down to our “bank”

Otherwise known as Hank

Hank the mysterious man, Hank our friend

I was always wanting to see him again.

He helps with food and he gives Papa jobs.

But he doesn’t really follow laws.

He steals and lies and cusses too

But he helps, which will do.

On the way, no presents to see,

Papa gets down on one knee

He gives me the ornament and acts a little shy

But I know something just doesn’t align..

He says he’s going away with Hank, he’s leaving me and mom

I take the gift and wonder what I did wrong.

He says “It will be good for money, I’m trying to help”

But I just look at him and welp.

He stands up and walks away.

I hope I see him again one day.

I hope I see him again one day...
