My Teenage Anthem

The wind blows
The river flows
Who will I be, nobody knows

The sky is the limit I was always taught
I was always taught the battle I won is the one well fought
I was always taught not to listen to the ones who said I'm not

From the circumstances that came my way
To the realities of debts I had to pay
I struggled and I struggled hard to keep my faith

I stayed as humble as I can be
But when I opened my mouth free words from my heart came to me
I was given the gift to lead

Like a endless sky I still rise
I keep my head up, I grow wise
Put away my past and lock it inside
Because today is a new day and the future is bright
I keep on living and never ever loose my sight
Of whats right

This poem is so empowering, and sends a great message about leading your own life and staying true to who you are. My favorite part is the simile you used to compare yourself to a sky, because the imagery is so powerful- the sky is something that everyone sees, but it cannot actually be touched.
