My Shadow
My shadow
My shadow
A bittersweet encounter with loneliness
As it flirts with the traction of my heels
Our companionship mirrors my solitude
A paradox that endures the medium of time
And ricochets off synapses in the cloudy dome
In the sunlight it is unnerving
To know it is the only one around
A place where no thoughts can trip its footsteps
Yet in the dark it sees a peace
Where I cannot see it
My shadow
Reminding me I am simply human
A small, lean dot
Moving across terrains of a pointillism world
Existence is a sure thing
Such as the presence of a friend
It assures me I am alone
Breathing on in the absence of sorrow
Oh, my favorite anomaly
My shadow
