In My Own Mind

A bud was placed into my mind
My skull supports a seed
And from this seed, I’ll have a thought
That I will soon be free.
I will break the shield holding me, sprout small stems of honesty
Look for help from other things, but finally find my sanity.
A bud was placed into my mind
My thoughts support a voice
And from this voice I’ll have a yearn
To learn to make a choice.
I’ll begin to think critically, wonder about the world around me
Question whether reality is as put together as it should be.
A bud was placed into my mind
A voice supports my heart
And from this heart compassion flows
Through life and all its faults.
And from these faults, I’ll help some grow and learn the ways of man.
Help them know who they should trust and when to make a plan.
I’ll teach them things like how to love
And how to nurture too,
And how young girls can protect their heart
From reckless, “I Love You’s”.
And maybe one day one girl will find,
That her mind supports a thought
And from this thought she will see
That she has the courage to be free.
