My Masks: a short tour
Look at all my pretty masks,
Lying on the floor.
I could explain them all for you,
if you would like the tour.
This one with the mouth sewn shut
Is the one I wear the most.
Around my parents and guests alike,
I must become the silent host.
Another favorite it this one here
With the eyes closed tight
The less I see, the less I think,
The easier I can get through the night.
This mask I wear in public
Is the one with the question mark
Sometimes being clueless
Prevents the most snark.
Masks have been a survival technique
When you met me, I was wearing one.
But this encounter was unique.
For my mask slipped a bit that day.
I readied myself for a critique,
One that never came.
And with all of myself shown to you
A freak, I was never named.
Look at all my pretty masks,
Lying on the floor.
I don’t pick them up now,
I don’t need them anymore.
