THIS IS TO MY LIGHT

There are days when you are so gentle and kind

You caress my face as peace fills my body and mind.

When all others have left I know you’ll be there

In my heart, you’re mine alone, but to the world, I must share.

The world depends on you making everything bright

And without you, all life is plucked out of sight.

But there are times when that beautiful smile, in others so rare

Is replaced by one of the harshest of glares.

Your anger scorches all that you see

Sparing no soul, not even me.

Or you hide your whole face, shrouded in clouds

And induce the cold shoulder; I wonder aloud

What has caused your fury, made you so mad,

For your absence makes me so lonely and sad.

The same applies to others, for we are devoid

Of your life-giving warmth and panic’s employed

Frantic like ants have invaded our pants

And proceeded to devour our souls and shred our goals

Pincers packed with misery and pain

That is the darkness now coursing throughout our veins.

And lo! Your angelic face we now behold

Breaks through the clouds and we cry aloud

Marveling at the angel God has given us.

In mercy and warmth, we once again bathe

And hope that never again will you shy away.
