My Life in Flames

Fire! Fire! Get up, get out!
Flames, smoke, chaos all about.

Firemen working, neighbors gawking
With a sooty face I stand sobbing.

In a matter of minutes, through lots of tears,
A lifetime of possessions disappears.

Silently I shout, Lord why me?
The world has stopped, how can this be?

Yet out of the ashes, by the light of day
Friends and strangers showed me it would be okay.

At the age of ten, when disaster struck, who knew
The kindness of strangers would change my life’s view.
