My Friends, My Strength

I lazily wake up

drowiness drowning me

my bedsheets strangling me

and eyeboogers in the corner of my eyes

my knotted hair resembling that of a bird's nest

not a very pretty sight

but the day is bright

I brush my teeth

removing all the remnants of last night's dinner

I smile into the mirror like a sinner

who just commited a crime and was not going to apologize

yes, the day is bright

I hear something vibrate on the counter

I glance at my phone

texts from my wonderful friends

who will i be without them

those who listen to me shout and cry

and those who makes my cheeks hurt

from the smiles despite all the miles

that we've hiked

or how my friend mike lent me his favorite shoes

just so i can impress some dude

nevertheless,

friends are friends

they make my day bright

no matter the petty fights

or those messy nights

the screams and shouts

or the cursing and the pouts

down to my core

they're never a bore

and i will never forget each and every one of them

because,

without them,

my day won't be made

and i wouldn't want to live another day

without seeing those pearly white smiles on their face

yes, they make my day bright

what about you?
