My Enemy

Location

My enemy, nemesis, competitor,

Needs no warm-up, no preparation for battle.

Everyday , everynight,

She waits for me.

Comes when I come, leaves when I leave,

a shadow.

Tears me down with a look

and rips into my soul.

My confidence vanishes, my spirit breaks,

and I leave in tears once more.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,

with one glance you are apalled.

Too many a tear has a young girl shed,

and from the mirror she has fled.

Society's acceptance, heroine in her veins

as her true self begins to wane.

Self esteem of the teenager is damaged.

We shy away from our own image.

Self hate is an infection,

while the enemy is our reflection.

If I had the power to change anything,

It would be to make loving ourselves as easy as breathing.
