My Colored Self

(poems go here) One day I was sitting down by my colored self
Drinking my colored juice ,Next to my colored desk
My colored mind started to think real hard ,So I got my colored pencil and started to draw
And said u know what ima draw my colored self , I drew a purple head a brown neck and a red chest
A purple head that represents royalty
For the royal blood that runs through my veins
The royal blood that runs through the Nile and to my heart
The royal blood that still reigns within me
And a brown neck that represents strength
Strength to hold up my royal head
The strength that ill need to go through the headaches of life
The strength the slaves used to hold their head up high ,Following the North Star in the sky
Lastly a red chest for the loving grateful spirit that I have
The spirit the slaves had when they sang free at last
The spirit that keeps me when times are rough , The spirit that helped the slaves when the going got tough
When my colored picture was done I smiled with glee ,That my colored skin is more than it is thought to be
My colored skin represents more than any book could tell ,It represents more than the number of my skin cells
My colored skin represents my heritage and myself being ,It represents my meaning
It represents my morals and values
My colored skin represents that I am the living proof of a dream come true
And with that thought
I sat my colored self back
And drank my colored juice
Next to my colored desk
