For My Brother

This is what reminds me of you.

Every time I see the green grass

I think of the gentle lush hills you roam.

I think of the blue sky that falls over the past

And feel the harsh winds you know from home.

Every time the raindrops fall,

I think of the time tears were shed.

I hardly shed any at all.

And now I’m the one with eyes that are red.

Every time I see the pattern plaid,

Every time I hear the bagpipes play,

Every time a raindrop lands,

Every time and every day.

Every time I look in the mirror,

I see, not my, but your reflection.

But that helps keep you near,

And I can feel your strong protection.

Everyone says we are so much the same,

And only now I realize this truth.

At times we are wild, and at times we are tame,

But always, everything will remind me of you.
