For My Beautiful Chimera Grey

Location

You are the pale glow of unnatural light
On an evening’s snowfall
Making the night unusually luminous
In a beautifully phantasmagoric way;

The butterflied duck that swings
In the window of the Oriental Market
Torturing me in my hunger
And in my astute moral sensibilities;

The melancholy tune that emanates
From a tattered guitar on Delmar Boulevard
Sounding sweeter than strawberry soda
and more distressed than my favorite pair of jeans

The placid silence that hangs heavily
On a party leaving the funeral of a friend,
Bringing the peace of finality
and the solemn shock of sudden loss.
