Apparently if there is a god he keeps on smiling at my mother ‘cuz
they both made it through as well
by this time my biological father had been in and out of jail
my mother was living in a lone house in the pueblos of Bayamon Puerto Rico
apparently like my mother
my sister was being raised by our grandmother
seems like an entire generation of children were raised that way.
Finally the day came where I was born
the end of the first week of my life
might as well have been the beginning of the end for everything else.

It takes great strength to write about our true experiences in a way that is raw and from the heart, and that is exactly what you do in this poem. "The end of the first week of my life / might as well have been the beginning of the end for everything else" is such a powerful line, because it shows how each beginning is the end of something else, and vice versa.
