The monster of the creek

Location

Few will forget that August day

When so many things were washed away

The morning was all dark and still

By midday the creek was beginning to fill

By evening there came such a gale

That many light things let go and set sail

And with the wind there came a great flood

That destroyed many things like a beast out for blood

The monster of the creek broke free in a flash

And washed away things worth more than just cash

The wind and the water, a great force combined

Released a rage that was all but confined

It took more than a zephyr to uproot the trees

That had stood through centuries and many a strong breeze

That evening the Schoharie rose so tall

That even Old Blenheim Bridge did fall

The wind did howl and the water did roar

On a mad rampage like a wild boar

The storm raged all through the night

Until the next morning when the birds took flight
